Subaru Crosstrek Repair in Salt Lake City, UT
The Subaru Crosstrek is one of the most popular vehicles with younger Utah drivers — a lifted, all-wheel-drive hatchback built for trailheads and ski days. We see plenty of them at our South Salt Lake shop and know exactly how the boxer engine, CVT, and AWD system age.

Why Subaru Crosstrek Drivers Choose Scott's Auto
A dealer visit for your Crosstrek means a service writer, a tech you never meet, and a bill north of $150 an hour. At Scott's, one mechanic diagnoses and repairs your Crosstrek, and you get a written estimate before anything happens. For a car that's often a young driver's first big vehicle, that straight talk about what's actually needed — and what can wait — makes a real difference.
We Know the Crosstrek CVT
Every Crosstrek built relies on a CVT or, on early cars, a manual. We service CVT fluid with the correct Subaru-spec fluid and inspect the transmission honestly — getting CVT maintenance right is key to a long life out of these cars.
Honest Estimates for First-Time Owners
A lot of Crosstreks belong to drivers facing their first major repair bill. We explain in plain language what's wrong, what it costs, and what can safely wait — so you can budget instead of being pressured.
AWD and CV Axle Experience
The Crosstrek's symmetrical all-wheel drive needs matched tires and proper CV axle service. We've kept Subaru AWD systems quiet and reliable for decades, and we replace complete axle shafts rather than patching boots.
Free Diagnosis on Every Crosstrek
We road test, scan for codes, and inspect your Crosstrek before recommending anything. You'll know what's wrong and what it costs before we start. No diagnostic fee.
When to Bring Your Subaru Crosstrek In
We've serviced Subaru Crosstreks at our South Salt Lake shop since the model arrived as the XV Crosstrek. When one comes in, we road test it, scan for codes if a light is on, and inspect the engine and AWD driveline before recommending anything. The issues below are the ones we see most on Crosstreks. If yours has any of them, bring it in for a free diagnosis.
Oil Consumption on FB20 Engines
Some Crosstreks with the FB20 boxer use oil between changes, particularly certain earlier model years. If your low-oil warning appears well before your next service, the engine may be consuming oil. We confirm the level, separate burning from leaking, and help you set a checking interval so the engine never runs low.
Learn more →CVT Service and Behavior Changes
The Crosstrek's CVT needs its fluid serviced on schedule and the correct Subaru-spec fluid used. If you notice shuddering at low speed, hesitation, or a change in how power delivers, have it checked. We inspect the transmission and service the fluid — neglected CVT fluid is one of the quickest ways to shorten a Crosstrek's life.
Clicking CV Axles
A rhythmic clicking when you turn at low speed means a CV joint is worn. The rubber boots crack with age and Utah dust and grit work into the joint. On an AWD Crosstrek we replace the complete axle shaft instead of repacking a boot, which lasts much longer.
Learn more →Brake Wear from Mountain Driving
Crosstreks live on canyon roads and ski-resort access routes, and long descents wear pads and heat-check rotors faster than flat driving. Squealing, a pulsing pedal, or longer stops mean it's time for a brake inspection. We measure pads and rotors and replace only what's worn.
Learn more →Clutch Wear on Manual Crosstreks
Early Crosstreks offered a five-speed manual, and clutches eventually wear — faster if the car is driven hard or learned on. A high or grabby engagement point, slipping under acceleration, or a burning smell after hills are the signs. We carry quality OEM-spec clutch kits and know the correct break-in procedure.
Learn more →Worn Struts and Bouncy Ride
The Crosstrek's extra ride height and the rough roads it gets driven on take a toll on struts. A floaty or bouncy ride, nose-dive under braking, or clunking over bumps points to worn struts or mounts. We inspect the full suspension and replace what's tired so the car rides controlled again.
Learn more →Who to Trust for Subaru Crosstrek Repair in South Salt Lake
Scott's Auto & Clutch Repair has been independently owned and operating at the same South Salt Lake location since 1990. We're not a chain, and there's no service-advisor layer — the mechanic who diagnoses your Crosstrek is the one who repairs it. For an owner facing a first big repair, that means honest answers and a written estimate before any work begins.
We've worked on Crosstreks since the model launched — manual and CVT, FB20 and FB25, every trim. Whether yours needs CVT service, CV axles, brakes, a clutch, or just a clear answer about a noise, you'll get a straight assessment and a price up front.

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing Subaru Crosstreks in the Salt Lake Valley.
Don't skip CVT fluid service on your Crosstrek. The continuously variable transmission depends on clean, correct-spec fluid, and neglected fluid is one of the most expensive mistakes a Crosstrek owner can make. Ask us about a service interval that fits how and where you drive in Utah.
Check your Crosstrek's oil level regularly, especially on earlier FB20 cars. Some of these engines use oil between changes, and a low engine can wear before the dash warning ever lights. Pull the dipstick every couple of fuel stops through the hot summer months.
Give your Crosstrek's brakes a chance to cool on long canyon descents. Riding the brakes down from the resorts overheats pads and warps rotors. Use a lower gear to let the engine help slow the car, and if you feel a pulsation in the pedal afterward, have the brakes inspected.

What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from Google — 5 stars across the board
“What a smart no nonsense guy. Really don't think there's a better mechanic in the Valley. Scott's replaced my Ford Edge's transmission, worked on my Honda and gonna do some work on my new Tundra I'm sure. Take it to Scott's not the dealership. 10 STARS!”
“I have been to Scott to fix my truck on numerous occasions and I have never had to go back because he didn't actually fix it. He fixes everything the first time, period. I will be going to Scott as long as I need help with my vehicle. And he charges decent prices for his fixes.”
“Knew what he was doing. Diagnosed my truck's clutch in 15 mins. Picked up the part and I was on my way in an hour. Reasonable price, too.”
