Why Mitsubishi Lancer Drivers Choose Scott's Auto
Lancer owners — particularly Evo owners — want a shop that takes their car seriously without treating the service visit like an opportunity to sell additional work. We inspect what needs inspecting, recommend what actually needs doing, and explain why in plain terms. The Evo's 4B11 and 4G63 engines respond very well to quality oil and timely clutch maintenance — we know how to keep them running.
Evo and Manual Lancer Clutch Work
Lancer Evo clutches — stock and performance upgrades — are routine work for us. We know the AWD drivetrain and correct torque procedures for the ACT and OEM-spec kits we carry.
Timing Belt Service on 4G63 Engines
The Evo's 4G63 uses an interference timing belt — failure destroys the engine. We replace the belt, water pump, and all tensioners as a complete job every 60,000 miles.
Straight Talk on Evo Maintenance
We don't oversell Evo service. If the brake pads have life left, we'll document the remaining thickness and tell you when to plan the next service.
Free Diagnosis Every Visit
Road test, code pull, fluid check, visual inspection — no charge before we recommend anything. Written estimate before work starts.
When to Bring Your Mitsubishi Lancer In
Lancer and Evo repairs at our shop cover the full spectrum — clutch and brake work on performance models to timing belt service and suspension repairs on everyday models. We road test every car before making recommendations. The issues below are what we see most consistently.
Clutch Wear on Manual Lancers and Evos
Manual Lancers and Evo models driven hard will go through clutches faster than a commuter automatic. Evo clutches from owners who run mountain passes or attend track days may need replacement as early as 40,000–50,000 miles. Signs include slipping under hard acceleration, a high engagement point, or difficulty releasing cleanly. We carry OEM-spec kits for all manual Lancer generations.
Learn more →Timing Belt on 4G63 Evo Engines
Every Evo through Evo IX uses the turbocharged 4G63, an interference engine. The timing belt must be replaced every 60,000 miles — and if you've bought an Evo without service records, that interval is the first thing to address. We do the complete job: belt, water pump, tensioners, and idler pulleys.
Learn more →Brake Wear on High-Performance Models
Evo brakes from stock Brembos to aftermarket setups get worked hard on canyon roads. Pad wear is faster than on a standard sedan, and brake fade on long descents is a real concern when pads are thin. We inspect pad thickness and rotor condition at every service and won't ask you to replace parts that don't need replacing.
Learn more →CV Axle Clicking (FWD Lancers)
Front-wheel-drive Lancer models develop CV axle wear as the boots crack and grease escapes. The clicking sound on tight turns is the classic symptom. We replace the complete axle shaft for a durable, lasting repair.
Learn more →Exhaust and Catalytic Converter
High-mileage Lancers often trigger catalyst efficiency codes as the converter degrades. Utah's emissions testing program will catch this. We diagnose the root cause — oxygen sensor, actual converter failure, or something upstream — and repair what's actually at fault.

Scott's Auto & Clutch Repair has been independently owned and operating at the same South Salt Lake location since 1990. We're not a franchise or a chain — the mechanic who diagnoses your Lancer or Evo is the same person doing the repair. Evo owners, in particular, value that accountability.
We've worked on Lancers from basic commuter models to high-mileage Evo X cars. Whether your car needs a clutch, a timing belt, a brake job, or an honest look at a check engine light, you'll get a direct answer and a written estimate before we start anything.

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing Mitsubishi Lancers in the Salt Lake Valley.
Evo oil changes — quality and frequency both matter: the 4G63 and 4B11 turbo engines in Lancer Evos are not forgiving of cheap oil or extended intervals. If you're running the car hard on canyon roads or at track events, change the oil every 3,000–4,000 miles with a quality full synthetic. The turbo bearing depends on clean oil more than almost any other component.
Timing belt awareness on Evo I–IX: every Evo through the IX uses the 4G63 interference engine with a timing belt. If you're buying a used Evo, documentation of a timing belt service within the last 60,000 miles is a condition of purchase — not a nice-to-have. If the records aren't there, budget for the belt immediately.
Utah canyon brake fade prevention: Evo owners who run Big Cottonwood or American Fork Canyon should inspect brake pad thickness before summer season. Stock Brembo pads wear faster than most people expect on repeated hard descents. Fresh pads at the start of canyon season are cheap insurance against brake fade.

5-Star Reviews
What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from Google — 5 stars across the board
“I had a pretty good experience. They got me in pretty quick. They did work on my 2014 Chevy Tahoe LT — replaced my 2 front oxygen sensors, changed the front windshield washer fluid pump, and did a coolant flush. They allowed me to bring my own parts and coolant, which I really appreciated. Done for a fair price. Would come back.”
“Honest mechanic shop. Services exhaust and gets it right the first time.”
“Scott is a skilled mechanic who provides great service at a fair price. This is my go to place for car repairs.”
