Why Mercedes-Benz GLC Drivers Choose Scott's Auto
The GLC is a popular compact luxury SUV and we see them often — which means we've built up solid familiarity with the M264 and M256 engines, the 9G-TRONIC transmission, and the 4MATIC drivetrain that these cars use. When your GLC comes in, we're not guessing at what goes wrong on it.
GLC Platform Familiarity
M264 and M256 engine issues, 9G-TRONIC behavior, and 4MATIC drivetrain service — we work on these regularly and know where the common failure points live.
Timing Chain Inspection on M264 Engines
The M264 four-cylinder turbo engine in the GLC 300 has a known tendency for timing chain wear with deferred oil changes. We inspect the chain, tensioner, and guides and advise on timing before damage occurs.
Brake and Suspension Service at Fair Rates
GLC brake jobs and front suspension work are significant profit centers at dealerships. We do the same quality work with OEM-grade parts at a price that makes sense.
Free Diagnosis Before Any Work
We inspect your GLC, pull codes, and give you a full written estimate before any repair starts. No diagnostic fee.
When to Bring Your Mercedes-Benz GLC In
The GLC is a well-built compact SUV but it has its share of predictable wear patterns. We service GLC models across the Salt Lake valley and have developed a consistent feel for where these vehicles need attention as mileage grows. Here's what we see most often.
Timing Chain Wear (M264 2.0T)
The M264 2.0-liter turbocharged engine in GLC 300 models is susceptible to timing chain stretch with deferred or extended oil change intervals. Symptoms include a rattle on cold startup, a check engine light for cam position correlation, or rough idle. We inspect the chain, tensioner, and guides and replace the assembly before damage to the valvetrain occurs.
Learn more →Water Pump Failure
GLC 300 water pumps — the mechanically driven unit and, on some builds, an auxiliary electric pump — have finite service lives. Signs of failure include a slow temperature gauge rise, a coolant level warning, or a visible leak at the front of the engine. We replace the pump, inspect the thermostat, and pressure-test the system.
Learn more →Brake Service and Wear Sensor Warning
GLC brake pads and rotors wear on a predictable schedule — rear brake wear is typically faster on this platform. The wear sensor warning is reliable; once it triggers, schedule service promptly. We handle the full brake job: pads, rotors, calipers where needed, and fluid flush.
Learn more →Front Suspension — Control Arms and Bushings
GLC front suspension components — particularly control arm bushings — wear with mileage and Utah road use. Symptoms include a clunking or knocking sound over bumps, vague steering response, or uneven front tire wear. We inspect and replace worn components with OEM-grade parts.
Learn more →CV Axle Wear on 4MATIC Models
The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system subjects front CV axles to additional stress. Clicking on slow turns — especially noticeable in parking lots — means a worn CV joint. We replace the complete axle shaft for a lasting repair.

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing Mercedes-Benz GLCs in the Salt Lake Valley.
The M264 engine in the GLC 300 is sensitive to oil change intervals. Extended intervals — anything beyond 10,000 miles or longer than one year — accelerate timing chain wear. Use full-synthetic Mercedes-spec oil and keep the intervals tight, especially if you do a lot of short-trip cold-weather driving.
GLC brake fluid should be flushed every two years. Utah's mountain and canyon terrain puts heat into the brakes on a regular basis, and degraded fluid can cause a soft pedal or brake fade under sustained downhill use. It's inexpensive maintenance that protects expensive brake hardware.
Spring is a good time to inspect your GLC's underbody after winter. Road salt and sand used on Utah roads accelerate corrosion of exhaust hangers, brake lines, and fuel lines faster than in dry climates. Catching a corroded line before it fails is far less expensive — and safer — than dealing with the consequence.

5-Star Reviews
What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from Google — 5 stars across the board
“Really great — brought me back to help me understand my truck better. I won a giveaway on his Instagram. He is awesome!”
“Took my grandson's car in to have the clutch looked at. We thought it might need a new clutch. Scott explained the level of wear and thought it was premature to replace it. He could have just said it needed a new clutch and I wouldn't have blinked an eye. I appreciated the honesty. Only needed a clutch adjustment. I also had him wire up a new set of fog lights and they look and work great. He will definitely get our business in the future.”
“I'm never using a different auto-mechanic again!”
“So glad we found Scott's auto. Great, honest mechanic!”
