Extending intervals beyond 7,500 miles on the M113 V8, in particular, allows oil to thicken and lose its ability to maintain proper chain tensioner hydraulic pressure. Using a quality full-synthetic oil at or under the recommended interval is the single best thing you can do to protect the timing system on a high-mileage CLK.
CLK cabriolet storage in Utah winter: the folding hardtop mechanism on the W209 CLK cabriolet includes hydraulic components that can be affected by prolonged cold exposure. If you store your CLK cabriolet through Utah's winter months, consider storing it in a heated space or ensuring the hydraulic roof fluid level is correct before the first cold deployment in spring — a low-fluid condition in the roof mechanism causes strain on the pump.
Brake fluid moisture testing: CLKs that are driven infrequently — weekend cars, summer drivers — accumulate brake fluid moisture more slowly than daily drivers but still accumulate it. Have the brake fluid moisture content tested at every other service visit; a fluid flush every 3–4 years keeps the hydraulic system working correctly and prevents the soft pedal feel that moisture-saturated fluid produces on the first hard stop.
