Coolant change intervals on RX-7s: rotary engines are unusually sensitive to coolant condition. Depleted antifreeze allows corrosion inside the cooling passages, which reduces heat transfer efficiency and can accelerate internal seal wear. Change the coolant every two years on a driven RX-7 regardless of mileage — and use the correct silicate-based coolant rather than the organic-acid types that can attack the seals in older cooling system components.
Pre-purchase inspection on FD RX-7s in Utah: the FD RX-7 has been appreciating as a collectible, and Utah's dry climate means some genuinely well-preserved examples are in the market. If you're buying an FD, have a pre-purchase inspection done before you hand over money. We inspect brake system condition, cooling circuit, clutch feel, and overall chassis condition — things that are hard to evaluate at a quick test drive.
Storing an RX-7 over Utah winters: if you're putting your RX-7 away for the winter, change the oil before storage — not after. Used engine oil contains combustion byproducts and acids that attack metal surfaces during long storage periods. Fresh oil provides a protective film. Start the car once a month if possible and let it come to full operating temperature before shutting it down — this keeps seals lubricated and prevents condensation buildup.
