Timing belt: if you don't know when your X-Type's timing belt was last changed, treat it as overdue and schedule service immediately. These engines are interference design — a broken belt destroys the engine. The water pump and tensioner should be replaced at the same time since the labor cost to access them again later is the same as the parts.
AWD transfer case and differential fluid: X-Type AWD models require periodic transfer case and rear differential fluid changes that many owners overlook entirely. Old fluid causes clutch pack wear inside the AWD coupling, which leads to binding on turns and expensive drivetrain damage. We check these at every service visit.
Coolant maintenance on aging X-Type: original coolant in high-mileage X-Types turns acidic and attacks aluminum engine components and cooling system seals. If your coolant is original or of unknown age, a coolant flush and refill is inexpensive protection against thermostat housing leaks, water pump seal failure, and radiator corrosion.
