Isuzu Rodeo Repair in South Salt Lake, UT
The Isuzu Rodeo was one of the most popular mid-size SUVs of the 1990s — shared with the Honda Passport and available with a choice of four-cylinder or V6 engines. We service Rodeos regularly at our South Salt Lake shop and know the 2.6L and 3.2L engine families, the 4WD system, and the maintenance items that matter most as these trucks age.
Full-Service Isuzu Rodeo Repair — All Generations
We service all Isuzu Rodeo model years at our South Salt Lake shop — first-generation trucks through the 2004 final year, including all engine and drivetrain configurations. Every visit starts with a free diagnosis so you know exactly what your Rodeo needs before we touch it.

Why Isuzu Rodeo Drivers Choose Scott's Auto
The Rodeo shares key components with the Honda Passport — the platforms are essentially identical, which is useful because Honda parts availability adds a secondary sourcing channel for many components. At Scott's, we've worked on both platforms and know the shared failure points: timing belts on the V6 engines, CV axle wear on 4WD models, and the cooling systems that are vulnerable on high-mileage examples.
Rodeo and Passport Platform Knowledge
The Rodeo and Honda Passport share their platform — which means our experience with both informs every Rodeo we service. We know the shared failure points and where to source parts efficiently.
Timing Belt Service on V6 Engines
The 3.2L V6 in the Rodeo is an interference engine with a 60,000-mile timing belt interval. We do this job completely — belt, water pump, tensioner, and idler — the first time.
4WD System and Transfer Case Service
We service the Rodeo's part-time 4WD system — transfer case fluid, front axle inspection, and locking hub maintenance — so the 4WD works when you need it.
Free Diagnosis, Written Estimate
We inspect and assess your Rodeo before recommending anything. You get a written estimate in plain language before any work starts.
When to Bring Your Isuzu Rodeo In
The Isuzu Rodeo is a solid truck that holds up well when maintained, but high-mileage examples need attention in specific areas — particularly the timing system, cooling system, and 4WD components. The oldest first-generation trucks are now approaching 30 years old. At Scott's, we work on Rodeos and know what to look for. If any of these symptoms sound familiar, bring yours in for a free assessment.
Timing Belt Service — 3.2L V6
The 3.2L SOHC V6 in 1992–2004 Rodeos uses an interference-engine timing belt that must be replaced every 60,000 miles. A broken belt on this engine causes serious valve and piston damage. We replace the belt, water pump, tensioner, and idler together — skipping any of those components means opening the engine again sooner than necessary.
Learn more →Overheating — Cooling System Failure
High-mileage Rodeos develop cooling system issues from the water pump, thermostat, and degraded coolant working together. The 3.2L V6 runs well within its temperature range but suffers head gasket damage when overheated. We inspect the full cooling system — hoses, thermostat, water pump, and coolant condition — before replacing individual parts.
Learn more →CV Axle Clicking on Turns
Four-wheel-drive Rodeo front CV axles wear over time, particularly on trucks that have seen real off-road use. Clicking during low-speed turns is the first sign. We replace the complete axle shaft.
Learn more →Brake Wear and Soft Pedal
Rodeo brakes are conventional and straightforward, but aging rubber brake hoses on older trucks restrict fluid flow and cause soft or uneven braking. We inspect the full system — hoses, calipers, pads, and rotors — and replace what's actually worn.
Learn more →Check Engine Light and Emissions
High-mileage Rodeos commonly develop oxygen sensor and catalytic converter efficiency codes. In Utah, a check engine light means a failed emissions test. We read the codes, trace the root cause, and fix the actual problem rather than clearing the light.
Learn more →Rough Ride — Worn Shocks
The Rodeo was designed for truck-like durability, but original shocks on a high-mileage example have lost their damping ability. On a truck used for off-road travel, worn shocks are a safety concern — they affect braking distance and handling stability. We replace them with quality units appropriate for the Rodeo's weight and use.

Scott's Auto & Clutch Repair has been independently owned and operating at the same South Salt Lake location since 1990. Isuzu left the US market, but Rodeos are still running all over the Salt Lake Valley — and they need a shop that knows the platform. We've worked on the Rodeo and its Honda Passport twin extensively and know the generation-specific service requirements.
Whether your Rodeo needs a timing belt, a CV axle, a brake job, or a diagnosis of that check engine light, you'll get a plain-language explanation of what we found and a written estimate before we start. No surprises, no pressure.

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing Isuzu Rodeos in the Salt Lake Valley.
The Rodeo and Passport share most mechanical components: if you're sourcing parts for a 1994–2004 Isuzu Rodeo, many Honda Passport parts are interchangeable. Honda's parts network is often broader and faster. This doesn't change the service procedure, but it gives you options — and it's one reason parts availability for these trucks is better than owners often expect.
4WD use and disuse in Utah: if your Rodeo has 4WD and you rarely use it, engage and disengage the system every few months to keep the engagement mechanism and front axle components from seizing. Trucks that sit in two-wheel drive for years sometimes develop binding front axles or transfer case engagement problems simply from lack of use. A short 4WD drive on a dirt road twice a year keeps everything moving.
Coolant flush priority on V6 Rodeos: the 3.2L V6 is a solid engine that handles Utah's altitude well, but it's sensitive to overheating — and old coolant that's lost its corrosion inhibitor can attack the aluminum cylinder heads. Flush the coolant every 60,000 miles or 5 years. In Utah's triple-digit summer heat, a properly maintained cooling system is the difference between a truck that works hard all summer and one that overheats on a canyon road in July.

What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from Google — 5 stars across the board
“Great service and great prices!”
“This guy is the best! Not only did he get my car done the same day, but when I couldn't pull it all the way there he came and pulled it with his own truck and son. Then he even charged my air conditioning! I'm a single mom with no one to really help with car stuff. This means the world to me. Couldn't ask for better help!! Thank you so much you saved the day and more!!! And honest to boot.”
“Honest and smart mechanic. Scott will explain what needs to be done. He replaced my water pump and my car is working perfectly! This was after taking it to 2 shops previous to Scott's. He will be my first option from now on. Saved me a ton of money, was honest in his assessment, and fast! 100% recommend!”
“I'm never using a different auto-mechanic again!”
