GMC Envoy Repair in South Salt Lake, UT
The GMC Envoy ran from the late 1990s through 2009 and built a loyal following as a durable body-on-frame midsize SUV. Our South Salt Lake shop still works on these regularly — plenty of Envoys are still in daily service, and the parts are widely available.
Full-Service GMC Envoy Repair — All Generations
We service all GMC Envoy generations at our South Salt Lake shop — first-gen GMT330 and second-gen GMT360 platforms, all engine options. Every visit starts with a free diagnosis before we recommend any repair.

Why GMC Envoy Drivers Choose Scott's Auto
Envoy owners keeping these trucks on the road are usually practical people who know the value of a well-maintained vehicle. We approach Envoy service the same way — practical repairs, fair prices, and a straight answer about whether the investment makes sense at this mileage.
Experienced with GMT360 Platform
The 2002–2009 Envoy on the GMT360 platform is straightforward to work on and well-documented. We know the failure patterns for the 4.2L inline-six and 5.3L V8 options on this generation.
Free Diagnosis on Older Vehicles
We don't charge a diagnostic fee on Envoys or any other vehicle. We look at it, tell you what we found, and you decide what to do — no obligation.
Honest Assessment on High-Mileage Envoys
If an Envoy's repair costs approach its market value, we tell you that directly rather than letting you find out after the bill. You get enough information to make a smart decision.
Parts Availability Not an Issue
GMT360 Envoy parts are well-supported through aftermarket suppliers. We source quality parts for these trucks and keep the repair cost reasonable.
When to Bring Your GMC Envoy In
Most Envoys that come through our shop have six figures on the odometer. The issues we see most often are predictable for a body-on-frame SUV of this age and mileage — suspension wear, exhaust corrosion, cooling system age, and brake service. Here's what to watch for.
Shock Absorber Wear and Handling Deterioration
High-mileage Envoys develop a loose, floaty ride from worn shock absorbers — the body leans in corners, the nose dives under braking, and the truck bounces over rough pavement. These are safety concerns, not just comfort issues. We replace shocks in axle pairs and road-test to confirm the handling improvement.
Learn more →Exhaust System Rust and Leaks
Envoys that have spent Utah winters with road salt exposure develop exhaust leaks — cracked manifold gaskets, rusted flex pipes, and failed mid-pipe connections. The classic symptom is a ticking or hissing noise that's loudest at startup and changes with RPM. We inspect the full system and repair what needs fixing.
Learn more →Water Pump Failure on 4.2L and 5.3L
Water pump lifespan on GMT360 Envoys is typically 80,000–100,000 miles. Symptoms include a coolant leak from the front of the engine, an overheating gauge, or a rumbling noise from the front of the engine. We replace the pump, check the thermostat, and flush the coolant as a package.
Learn more →Brake Service — Four-Corner Inspection
High-mileage Envoys need regular brake attention — pads wear, rotors develop heat spots, and calipers can seize on vehicles that have sat for extended periods. We inspect all four corners and replace only what needs replacing, never as a blanket job.
Learn more →Check Engine Light and Catalytic Converter
P0420 and P0430 codes on high-mileage Envoys usually indicate genuinely worn catalytic converters. Before replacing, we verify the code isn't an upstream O2 sensor or exhaust leak issue. When the cat is at fault, we replace with OEM-quality units that will pass Utah emissions.

Scott's Auto & Clutch Repair has been at the same South Salt Lake location since 1990 — independently owned, no franchise, no upsell pressure. We still work on Envoys regularly and treat them with the same care as newer vehicles. The mechanic who diagnoses yours is the one who repairs it.
We understand that keeping an older Envoy on the road is a financial decision as much as a mechanical one. We'll tell you honestly what the repair costs relative to what the truck is worth — and if the math doesn't work in your favor, we'll say that too. Most repairs on Envoys we see are completed same-day or next-day.
How We Work With GMC Envoy Drivers
Tell Us What Your Envoy Is Doing
Describe the noise, symptom, or warning light. Include year and engine if you know it — that helps us look up what these platforms are prone to at that mileage.
Free Diagnostic Inspection
We road-test, scan for codes, and inspect the relevant system — at no charge. We check fluid conditions and look for visible leaks while we're under the truck.
Written Estimate and Honest Assessment
You get a written estimate and a plain-language explanation of what we found. We'll tell you what's urgent, what can wait, and whether the overall condition of the truck warrants the repair.
Quality Parts at a Fair Price
GMT360 Envoy parts are widely available and reasonably priced through quality aftermarket suppliers. We don't inflate parts costs on older vehicles.
Road Test and Walkthrough
After the repair we road-test the Envoy to verify the fix, then walk you through what was done at pickup.

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing GMC Envoys in the Salt Lake Valley.
Coolant condition on high-mileage Envoys: the Dex-Cool orange coolant used in GMT360 Envoys degrades over time and becomes acidic, attacking gaskets, the water pump, and cooling passages. If your Envoy has never had a coolant flush or if you're not sure of the history, have it tested. Old Dex-Cool that's turned dark brown or has visible deposits is causing damage with every drive.
4WD actuator maintenance: Envoys with automatic four-wheel drive use an electronic actuator to engage the front axle. If this actuator isn't exercised occasionally, it can seize. Test the 4WD system before the first snowfall each year — engage it, drive a short distance, and disengage. A system that works in October is far preferable to one that fails in a January storm.
Suspension inspection on Envoys over 100K: at 100,000+ miles on a Utah road-salt vehicle, it's worth doing a comprehensive under-vehicle inspection — not just for shocks, but for ball joints, tie rod ends, and sway bar links. These wear together over time, and identifying worn components proactively is far less disruptive than a steering failure or a failed Utah safety inspection.

5-Star Reviews
What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from Google — 5 stars across the board
“Great service and great prices!”
“Was on my way across the country and they took me in on short notice, diagnosed and fixed my issue in a few hours. Good price too.”
“Took my grandson's car in to have the clutch looked at. We thought it might need a new clutch. Scott explained the level of wear and thought it was premature to replace it. He could have just said it needed a new clutch and I wouldn't have blinked an eye. I appreciated the honesty. Only needed a clutch adjustment. I also had him wire up a new set of fog lights and they look and work great. He will definitely get our business in the future.”
“Scott gets my car done quickly and his prices are good. He only fixes what needs to be done and doesn't up-charge.”
