Chrysler Sebring Repair in South Salt Lake, UT
The Chrysler Sebring ran from 1995 through 2010 in coupe, sedan, and convertible body styles — a front-wheel-drive car that sold in large numbers and still shows up at our South Salt Lake shop regularly. Whether it's the 2.4L or the 2.7L V6, we know the Sebring's maintenance requirements and common failure points.
Full-Service Chrysler Sebring Repair — All Generations
We service all Chrysler Sebring generations at our South Salt Lake shop — first-gen coupes, second-gen sedans and convertibles, and third-gen JS-platform models. Every visit starts with a free diagnosis before we recommend any repair.

Why Chrysler Sebring Drivers Choose Scott's Auto
The 2.7L V6 in second-gen Sebrings has a documented reputation for sludge and sludge-related failures when oil changes are deferred — we've seen the results of that many times. We're honest about what the 2.7L's condition is before recommending repairs that may not be worth doing on an engine that's already internally compromised.
2.7L V6 Sludge Awareness
We don't sell you a timing belt and water pump on a 2.7L before checking whether the engine has a sludge problem that makes the larger investment questionable. Honest assessment first.
Timing Belt Expertise
Sebring models with interference engines require timely timing belt service. We replace the complete kit — belt, tensioner, idler, and water pump — and explain why cutting corners on this job is risky.
Free Diagnosis Before Any Quote
We road-test and inspect before recommending. On a Sebring with a check engine light or overheating, finding the cause before throwing parts at it matters.
Straight Talk on Investment
Sebrings are aging vehicles. If your repair cost approaches the car's value, we'll tell you that before you authorize anything.
When to Bring Your Chrysler Sebring In
Sebring maintenance priorities depend on the engine and generation. The 2.4L is more forgiving of neglect than the 2.7L, which requires strict oil change intervals. Third-gen Sebrings have different wear patterns than earlier models. We tailor the inspection to your specific car. Here's what we see most often.
Timing Belt Replacement on 2.4L Sebring
The 2.4L four-cylinder in first and second-gen Sebrings uses a timing belt driving an interference engine. A snapped belt bends valves immediately. The correct interval is 90,000 miles, but we recommend inspection earlier on cars whose service history is unknown. We replace the belt, tensioner, idler, and water pump as a complete kit.
Learn more →2.7L V6 Oil Sludge and Overheating
The 2.7L V6 in 2001–2006 Sebrings is notorious for developing engine sludge when oil changes are deferred. Sludge blocks the oil pickup screen, starves the bearings, and causes overheating through blocked coolant passages. If your 2.7L is running hot, using oil, or ticking at idle, the cause may be sludge damage rather than a simple repair. We inspect the engine condition honestly before recommending what to do.
Learn more →Strut Wear and Front-End Noise
Sebring struts — especially on the second-gen — wear by 80,000–100,000 miles and produce clunking, bouncing, or a wandering front end. Utah road conditions accelerate strut wear. We replace in axle pairs and always recommend an alignment check afterward.
Learn more →Brake Service
Sebring brakes wear predictably — front pads first, rotors warp from heat, rear drums on some models need adjustment or replacement. A squealing or grinding noise or a soft pedal means it's time for an inspection. We check all four corners.
Learn more →CV Joint Wear — Front Axles
Sebring front CV joints wear at mileage — the rubber boot cracks, grease escapes, and clicking on turns follows. On an older Sebring, we replace the complete axle shaft rather than the boot alone, which holds up significantly better.

Scott's Auto & Clutch Repair has been independently owned at the same South Salt Lake location since 1990. We work on Sebrings across all three generations and know the platform-specific issues — the 2.7L's sludge vulnerability, the 2.4L's timing belt interval, and the third-gen's wear patterns — well enough to give you an accurate diagnosis without guessing.
If your Sebring is at a point where the repair investment needs to be weighed against the car's value, we'll have that conversation with you honestly. We won't let you put $1,500 into an engine that's not going to hold up for it. Most Sebring repairs we do finish same-day or next-day.
How We Work With Chrysler Sebring Drivers
Tell Us Your Sebring's Generation and Symptoms
Year, engine (2.4L, 2.7L, or other), and what it's doing. The 2.7L requires a different inspection approach than the 2.4L — knowing upfront helps.
Free Diagnostic Inspection
Road test, code scan, and a targeted inspection based on your generation's known issues — all at no charge. On 2.7L Sebrings, we check for sludge indicators before quoting any major repair.
Honest Written Estimate
Itemized, plain-language estimate. If a repair doesn't make sense given the car's condition, we'll tell you that first.
Quality Parts When the Repair Makes Sense
We use OEM-grade parts and manufacturer-specified fluids on every Sebring repair we complete.
Road Test and Walkthrough
We verify the repair before you pick up and explain what was done — and what to watch for next.

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing Chrysler Sebrings in the Salt Lake Valley.
2.7L oil change interval: if you own a second-gen Sebring with the 2.7L V6, treat 3,000–4,000 miles as your maximum oil change interval — not 7,500. This engine is exceptionally sensitive to sludge caused by degraded oil. The sludge doesn't give you warning signs until it's already caused damage. Frequent oil changes are the only reliable protection for this engine.
Timing belt service on 2.4L: have the service history documented before you buy or repair an older 2.4L Sebring. An interference engine with an unknown timing belt history is a liability — a belt failure causes immediate, expensive valve damage. If the history isn't known, replace the belt and associated components regardless of mileage.
Convertible top drain tube maintenance: Sebring convertibles have drain tubes at the corners of the convertible top well. These tubes clog with debris and cause water to pool inside the doors or floor. Utah's dust and cottonwood seasons are particularly effective at clogging them. Clear the drain tubes once a year — it's a 10-minute job that prevents interior water damage that's far more expensive to fix.

5-Star Reviews
What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from Google — 5 stars across the board
“Scott has always preferred good work on my vehicles. I had his shop replace the driveline on my 2014 VW Touareg — not an easy job. The cost was cheaper than another shop. They did a great job. I had them rebuild the alternator because it was too cold for me to do it. The cost was better than I thought. I am very pleased with their work. Scott has always given me good solid advice.”
“What a smart no nonsense guy. Really don't think there's a better mechanic in the Valley. Scott's replaced my Ford Edge's transmission, worked on my Honda and gonna do some work on my new Tundra I'm sure. Take it to Scott's not the dealership. 10 STARS!”
“This was my second time using Scott's. The power steering went out in my truck. Scott got it in that day and had it fixed in a couple of hours. I couldn't recommend this shop more!”
