Why Buick Regal Drivers Choose Scott's Auto
Regal owners range from classic-car enthusiasts keeping a G-body on the road to daily drivers of 5th-gen turbocharged sedans. We take all of it seriously. Whether you need a clutch on a 5th-gen GS or a carburetor rebuild on a 1979 V8, we'll tell you honestly what we can do and what the repair requires.
Multi-Generation Regal Experience
The G-body, W-body, and Opel-based Regal platforms are all different animals. We know what maintenance each generation requires and where each one tends to wear.
Clutch Specialists for GS Models
The 5th-gen Regal GS with the 6-speed manual is a clutch job we handle. We stock quality clutch kits for the 2.0T GS and know the correct installation procedures.
Free Diagnosis — All Generations
We inspect before recommending anything, regardless of how old or new the Regal is. No diagnostic fee.
Honest on Older Platforms
For classic G-body Regals, we'll tell you what parts are available, what the repair involves, and whether the investment makes sense — straight talk, no sales pitch.
When to Bring Your Buick Regal In
The service items we see most on Regals depend heavily on the generation. Classic G-body cars show up for exhaust, brakes, and mechanical rebuilds. 5th-gen turbocharged Regals need turbo maintenance, timing belt service, and clutch work. We inspect based on your specific Regal's generation and symptoms.
Timing Belt on 2.0T Fifth-Gen Regal
The 2.0L turbocharged LHU engine in the 2011–2017 Regal uses a timing belt — an interference engine design where a snapped belt causes immediate, severe valve damage. The correct interval is approximately 97,000 miles, but we recommend inspection closer to 85,000 miles in Utah's temperature extremes. We replace the belt, tensioner, idler, and water pump as a complete kit.
Learn more →Clutch on 5th-Gen Regal GS
The manual-transmission Regal GS with its 2.0T engine is a performance-oriented car that earns its clutch wear faster than a commuter sedan. Signs of a worn clutch include slipping under hard acceleration, a grabby or high engagement point, or difficulty getting into gear cleanly. We carry quality clutch kits for the 2.0T GS.
Learn more →Strut Wear on Sporty 5th-Gen Models
The 5th-gen Regal has a sport-tuned suspension that's firmer than average — and when the struts wear, the tradeoff shifts from sporty to jarring on Utah roads. Worn struts show up as a harsh, unsettled ride and reduced handling precision. We replace in axle pairs and always recommend an alignment check afterward.
Learn more →Brake Service
Regal brakes across all generations need regular attention — the 5th-gen GS in particular, driven as intended, eats front brakes faster than a base sedan. A pulsating pedal, squealing on initial brake application, or a longer stopping distance are all reasons to have the system inspected.
Learn more →Exhaust and Turbo Outlet on High-Mileage 2.0T
The exhaust system on the 2.0T Regal — especially the turbo downpipe and the flex section — is a common failure point at higher mileage. Road salt accelerates corrosion at the pipe joints. A hissing or ticking noise under acceleration is the typical exhaust leak symptom on these cars.

Most Regal repairs are completed same-day or next-day. For older platforms, sourcing may add time, and we'll tell you that upfront.
How We Work With Buick Regal Drivers
Tell Us Your Regal's Generation and Symptoms
The Regal generation matters a lot for diagnosis. Tell us the year, engine, and what the car is doing — that shapes the entire inspection approach.
Free Diagnostic Inspection
Road test, code scan if applicable, and a component inspection targeted to your generation's known failure points — at no charge.
Written Estimate — Itemized and Honest
What needs fixing, what it costs, and the order of priority. We explain why, not just what.
Quality Parts Appropriate to the Platform
Modern Regals get OEM-grade parts and manufacturer-spec fluids. Classic G-body and W-body cars get quality aftermarket components from reputable suppliers.
Road Test and Pickup
We test-drive after every repair and walk you through the work at pickup. Classic or modern, same standard.

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing Buick Regals in the Salt Lake Valley.
Timing belt interval on 2.0T Regal: the 2.0L LHU engine is an interference engine. A broken timing belt bends valves immediately — there's no warning, no noise before it happens. The factory interval is approximately 97,000 miles, but we recommend inspection at 85,000 miles and earlier replacement if the car has spent its life in extreme Utah temperatures or has been driven hard. A complete belt kit — belt, tensioner, idler, and water pump — at one time is the right approach.
Turbo oil changes on 2.0T Regal: same advice as any turbocharged GM engine — don't stretch the oil change interval. The turbocharger on the 2.0T runs hot and depends on clean oil for bearing lubrication. Let the oil go 8,000 miles on a turbocharged car and you're borrowing from the turbo's service life. We recommend 5,000-mile changes on the 2.0T regardless of what the oil life monitor suggests.
Classic G-body Regal corrosion: Utah Regals from the 1970s and 80s that have been here since new have been exposed to road salt for decades. Before investing in an engine or drivetrain repair on a classic G-body, have the frame, floor pans, and fuel lines inspected for rust. The G-body is a capable platform worth maintaining, but rust in structural areas changes the investment equation.

“This guy is the best! Not only did he get my car done the same day, but when I couldn't pull it all the way there he came and pulled it with his own truck and son. Then he even charged my air conditioning! I'm a single mom with no one to really help with car stuff. This means the world to me. Couldn't ask for better help!! Thank you so much you saved the day and more!!! And honest to boot.”
“I have been to Scott to fix my truck on numerous occasions and I have never had to go back because he didn't actually fix it. He fixes everything the first time, period. I will be going to Scott as long as I need help with my vehicle. And he charges decent prices for his fixes.”
“Scott is the best guy and best mechanic in Utah. He is also a great American. He is honest and does exceptional work.”
