M4 clutch longevity: the easiest thing you can do to extend clutch life on a manual G82 or F82 M4 is avoid slipping the clutch on hard launches. A clean engagement from a slightly higher RPM puts less wear on the friction surface than holding the clutch at the engagement point while building revs. Clutch replacement on an M4 is not cheap — a little discipline goes a long way.
Utah canyon driving and brake fluid: if your 4 Series sees regular canyon use — Emigration, Millcreek, Big Cottonwood — change your brake fluid every year. BMW's recommended interval is designed for normal commuting use, not repeated mountain descents. Fresh, moisture-free brake fluid maintains consistent pedal feel and prevents the spongy feel that comes with brake fade.
Pre-purchase inspection on F32 M4s: first-generation M4s (F82) are now entering the used market at attractive prices. Before buying, have a pre-purchase inspection done and ask specifically about rod bearing condition on the S55. The S55 is more robust than the S65 V8, but high-mileage examples with irregular oil changes deserve careful inspection.
