Why Audi A6 Drivers Choose Scott's Auto

The A6 is a more complex car than most shops want to deal with — V8 timing belt jobs on the C5, 3.0T supercharger service on the C6 and C7, air suspension on later models. We take on the work other shops turn away. Our approach is straightforward: diagnose it accurately, explain it clearly, and fix only what actually needs fixing.

V6 and V8 Timing Belt Expertise

The C5 and C6 A6's 2.7T twin-turbo and 4.2L V8 engines require meticulous timing belt service — with a long list of associated components that should be done at the same time. We do the job completely so you're not back in six months with a related failure.

Air Suspension Diagnosis

Later A6 models with air suspension develop compressor failures, air strut leaks, and height sensor faults. We diagnose air suspension faults accurately rather than swapping parts until something works — saving you significant money on an expensive system.

Free Diagnosis, Written Estimate

A6 repairs can be expensive, which makes an accurate diagnosis essential. We inspect your car thoroughly and give you a written estimate before anything starts — no diagnostic fee.

Straightforward Advice on Complex Repairs

If a repair is expensive and the car's value or condition doesn't justify it, we'll tell you. If it's something that genuinely needs to be done, we explain exactly why. No pressure, no upsell.

When to Bring Your Audi A6 In

The A6's engineering sophistication is what makes it a pleasure to drive — and what makes it essential to work with a shop that has handled these cars before. At Scott's, the A6 failures we see most consistently break down into a predictable set of systems. We inspect every one of them when your car comes in.

Timing Belt Service — 2.7T, 3.0T, and 4.2L V8

The C5 and C6 A6 in 2.7T and 4.2L V8 configurations use an interference engine timing belt that must be replaced on schedule — typically at 75,000–90,000 miles. A belt failure on an interference engine causes immediate, severe internal engine damage. We replace the belt, tensioners, idlers, and water pump as a complete set. The labor overlap makes doing all components at once the smart financial decision — doing them separately costs you significantly more.

Water Pump Failure and Overheating

A6 water pumps — particularly on the 2.7T and 3.0T engines — are high-failure items. The 3.0T supercharged A6 has a known issue with the coolant pump impeller. Overheating on an A6 is a serious situation; the complex cylinder heads on these engines don't tolerate heat stress well. If your temperature gauge is climbing, stop driving and call us.

Air Suspension Faults (C6 and C7 A6)

The adaptive air suspension system on C6 and C7 A6s is a comfort and handling asset — until the compressor wears out, an air strut develops a leak, or a height sensor fails. The car will either ride noticeably low, display a suspension warning light, or both. We diagnose which component is actually at fault before recommending a replacement, which can save you from replacing a $600 compressor when the real problem is a $40 height sensor.

Brake Wear and Caliper Issues

A6 brakes perform well but wear at rates that surprise owners who are accustomed to domestic vehicles. Rear calipers with the integrated electric parking brake mechanism on C7 and C8 models require a specific process for compression — you can't use a standard piston tool. We have the correct equipment and know the procedure for every A6 generation.

Exhaust and Catalytic Converter Issues

C5 and C6 A6 exhaust systems — especially the twin-pipe setups on 2.7T models — develop flex pipe cracks and catalytic converter failures as they age. A check engine light with P0420 or P0430 codes often points to downstream O2 sensor failure or an aging catalytic converter. We diagnose the actual cause before recommending a converter replacement.

Scott's Auto & Clutch Repair has been independently owned and operating at the same South Salt Lake location since 1990. How We Work With Audi A6 Drivers

1

Tell Us What Your A6 Is Doing

Warning lights, unusual sounds, ride quality changes, or scheduled maintenance — give us as much detail as you can. It helps us zero in faster.

2

Free Diagnostic Inspection

We road test your A6, scan for stored fault codes, check fluid conditions, and inspect the system your concern points to — before recommending anything.

3

Written Estimate in Plain Language

We explain what we found and what it will take to fix it — without jargon. You get a written estimate and nothing starts until you approve it.

4

Only the Repairs Your A6 Needs

We don't add services to your ticket that your car doesn't require. If something can wait, we note it for your next visit rather than adding it to today's bill.

5

Verified and Walked Through at Pickup

We test the repair under real conditions before you pick up. At pickup we walk you through what was done and any items to monitor going forward.

Audi A6 Maintenance Tips for Utah Drivers

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing Audi A6s in the Salt Lake Valley.

Timing belt intervals on Utah A6s: Audi's recommended timing belt intervals are mileage-based, but age matters just as much in Utah's dry climate. Rubber degrades over time regardless of mileage — an A6 that has been driven very conservatively can still have a belt at risk of cracking if it's over 7–8 years old. If you don't have documentation of when the timing belt was last replaced, schedule an inspection.

Air suspension in Utah winters: if your A6 has the optional air suspension, extremely cold mornings can cause the air compressor to work harder than normal as cold air compresses differently. If you notice the car sitting low first thing in a cold morning and then self-leveling after running for a few minutes, the compressor and struts are worth having inspected — it can be early warning of a developing leak.

Coolant color and concentration check: Utah's temperature swings — from sub-zero January nights to 100-degree July afternoons — are hard on coolant systems. Audi G13 or G12 coolant should be at the correct concentration for freeze protection. Using the wrong coolant type or tap water to top off can cause corrosion inside the cooling system. We check coolant condition at every service visit.

“My wife's Subaru was having a timing issue with the wipers. I brought it to Scott's and they diagnosed the problem quickly and torqued a bolt in about 5 seconds that fixed it. They didn't charge us and we will definitely be coming back here for auto service with Subarus.”
