Why Lincoln Continental Drivers Choose Scott's Auto
The modern Continental's 3.0L twin-turbo V6 is the same engine shared with the Aviator and several other Lincoln and Ford products — a well-understood platform that rewards proper maintenance. The 2.7T base engine is equally well-proven. These cars aren't as common in Salt Lake as the MKZ or Navigator, but when one comes into our shop we service it with the same straight-talk process and written estimate we use for everything else.
Modern Continental Twin-Turbo V6 Service
The 2017–2020 Continental shares its 3.0T and 2.7T EcoBoost engines with other Lincoln and Ford vehicles we service regularly. Platform familiarity means accurate diagnosis and efficient repairs.
Classic Continental Service
Pre-1980s Continentals use well-established mechanical platforms with good parts availability through specialty suppliers. We've worked on classic American cars for over 30 years and are comfortable with the older platforms.
No Dealer Markup on a Rare Vehicle
The modern Continental isn't common enough for most Lincoln dealers to have seen many of them in service bays. We apply the same careful diagnostic process regardless of how common the car is.
Free Diagnosis on Every Continental
Road test, code pull, and full inspection before any recommendation. Written estimate before work begins — no diagnostic fee.
When to Bring Your Lincoln Continental In
Modern Continental owners typically come to us with EcoBoost engine concerns, brake service needs, or suspension issues on a car that's been driven hard as a luxury daily driver. Classic Continental owners come in for cooling system work, brake overhauls, or suspension repairs on cars that have often had inconsistent maintenance histories. Either way, you'll get an honest diagnosis before we recommend anything.
Check Engine — EcoBoost Timing or Boost Codes
The 3.0T and 2.7T EcoBoost engines in the modern Continental can generate timing chain codes, cam phaser codes, and boost system codes as mileage climbs. We pull the stored codes, road test the car, and inspect before recommending any specific repair — the code points us in the right direction, but we verify the root cause.
Learn more →Brake Noise or Soft Pedal
The Continental's brake system handles a heavy full-size sedan's stopping demands — and it wears accordingly. Squealing from the wear indicators or a pedal that feels lower than it should both warrant inspection. We check pads, rotors, calipers, and fluid condition before recommending specific replacements.
Learn more →Bouncy Ride or Clunking — Suspension
The modern Continental uses a sophisticated suspension system that delivers a quiet, compliant ride when the components are healthy. Worn struts, strut mounts, or rear shock absorbers produce a bounce or clunk that's particularly noticeable on Utah's frost-heaved roads. We diagnose the specific failed components before recommending replacements.
Learn more →CV Axle Clicking on Turns
The Continental's front CV axles handle FWD traction demands on a heavy luxury sedan. A rhythmic clicking during low-speed turns is the sign of a worn outer CV joint. We replace the complete axle shaft for a more durable repair than a boot-only fix.
Learn more →Failed Utah Emissions — Catalyst or Oxygen Sensor Codes
A P0420 or P0430 catalyst efficiency code will cause a Salt Lake County emissions failure. Before recommending catalytic converter replacement, we verify the upstream O2 sensors are functioning correctly — a faulty sensor can generate a false catalyst code. We find the actual problem before recommending parts.

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing Lincoln Continentals in the Salt Lake Valley.
3.0T EcoBoost oil service on the modern Continental: the twin-turbo 3.0L runs hot and cycles oil through two turbocharger bearing assemblies. Use a quality full-synthetic 0W-20 and change it every 5,000 miles — the Ford oil life monitor may suggest longer intervals but turbo bearing longevity depends on clean oil. At Salt Lake City's altitude the engine runs slightly harder, which is reason enough to keep intervals conservative.
Classic Continental coolant and cooling: pre-1980s Continentals use big-displacement V8 engines that produce significant heat and require a fully functional cooling system — especially during Utah's summer months. Coolant should be flushed every two to three years regardless of mileage. A clogged radiator or a weak water pump that's imperceptible in mild weather becomes a serious problem on a July afternoon on I-15.
Modern Continental and Utah emissions: the 2017–2020 Continental falls within Salt Lake County's emissions testing requirements. If the car has had a recent battery replacement or code clearing, the OBD monitors need to complete a full drive cycle before the car will pass. We can walk you through the drive cycle for your specific engine to make sure you pass on the first attempt.
