Why Kia Forte Drivers Choose Scott's Auto
Independent shops serve the Forte better than the dealership does — your car gets a technician's full attention, not a service writer's sales pitch. At Scott's, the same mechanic who diagnoses your Forte is the one who repairs it. We've been working on compact Korean platforms for years and know the Forte's quirks by generation. You get a plain-English explanation of what we found and a written estimate before any work begins.
Generation-Specific Knowledge
First-gen Fortes have different failure patterns than third-gen turbocharged models. We track these differences and know what to look for based on your model year — faster diagnosis, fewer surprises on the bill.
Clutch Specialists for Manual Fortes
Manual Forte and Forte5 clutch jobs are routine for us. We stock quality clutch kits for all manual Forte generations and know the correct flywheel inspection procedures to do the job right the first time.
Timing Chain Inspection on High-Mileage 2.0L
The 2.0L Nu engine in second and third-gen Fortes can develop timing chain noise at higher mileage, especially with infrequent oil changes. We inspect chain condition, tensioner, and guides before the issue becomes catastrophic.
Free Diagnosis on Every Forte
We road test, pull codes, and inspect your Forte before recommending anything. You know what's wrong and what it will cost before we turn a wrench — no diagnostic fee.
When to Bring Your Kia Forte In
We've been servicing compact Korean platforms at our South Salt Lake shop for years. When a Forte comes in, we road test it, pull any codes, and do a full visual before recommending anything. The issues below are the ones we see most consistently on Fortes. If yours is showing any of these symptoms, bring it in — the diagnosis is free.
Timing Chain Noise on 2.0L and 2.4L Engines
The Nu-series 2.0L and Theta-series 2.4L engines in second and third-gen Fortes can develop timing chain stretch on high-mileage examples, particularly when oil changes have been infrequent or delayed. The first symptom is usually a brief metallic rattle on cold startup. Don't ignore it — a jumped timing chain on an interference engine means bent valves. We inspect the chain, tensioner, and guides and replace them before damage occurs.
Learn more →Clutch Wear on Manual Forte and Forte5
Manual Fortes used as daily commuters in stop-and-go Salt Lake traffic wear clutches at a predictable rate. Forte5 hatchbacks with the 1.6T are popular with enthusiast drivers who accelerate clutch wear further. Signs include a slipping or high engagement point, difficulty finding neutral, or a burning smell from the drivetrain area. We carry quality clutch kits for all manual Forte generations.
Learn more →Check Engine Light — Common Fault Codes
Third-gen Fortes with the 2.0L commonly trigger evap system codes and O2 sensor faults as mileage climbs. Turbocharged 1.6T models see boost-related codes tied to wastegate position and boost pressure sensors. We read the codes, confirm the root cause, and repair what actually needs fixing — not just clear the light.
Learn more →CV Axle Clicking on Turns
Forte CV axles take a beating in daily commuter use. The boot cracks, grease escapes, and clicking on turns follows. We replace the complete axle shaft — not just the boot — for a repair that doesn't need to be revisited six months later.
Learn more →Brake Wear and Rotor Thickness
Forte front brakes wear faster than the rears, especially in stop-and-go urban driving. Rotors on this platform are relatively thin from the factory — once they're worn, they can't be machined much before hitting the discard thickness. We measure rotor thickness at every brake service and tell you honestly whether they can be resurfaced or need replacement.
Learn more →Exhaust Flex Pipe Failure
Utah road brine corrodes Forte exhaust flex pipes and flanges over time. A rumbling exhaust note that's louder than usual — especially under acceleration — is often a cracked flex pipe. We weld or replace the affected section and get the exhaust sealed up properly.

How We Work With Kia Forte Drivers
Tell Us What Your Forte Is Doing
Describe the noise, the warning light, or the service you need. The more detail you give us, the faster we can identify the problem.
Free Diagnostic Inspection
We road test your Forte, pull any stored codes, check fluid condition and levels, and inspect what the symptom points to — before recommending a single repair.
Plain-Language Written Estimate
No jargon. You get a written estimate covering exactly what needs to be done, what it costs, and why. Nothing starts until you approve it.
Only the Work Your Forte Needs
We don't recommend services your car doesn't need. If something can safely wait, we tell you that and note it so you can plan ahead.
Road Test and Walkthrough at Pickup
We verify the repair under real driving conditions before you pick up. At pickup we walk you through what was done and what to keep an eye on going forward.

Utah's temperature swings, mountain roads, and high altitude put unique demands on your vehicle. Here's what we've learned from years of servicing Kia Fortes in the Salt Lake Valley.
Oil change intervals on Forte 2.0L: the Nu-series engine that powers second and third-gen Fortes is sensitive to oil quality and change intervals. Skipping oil changes is the leading cause of timing chain wear on this engine. Don't stretch past 5,000–6,000 miles between changes, and use the viscosity Kia specifies — running the wrong weight oil affects chain tensioner performance.
Turbo warm-up and cool-down on Forte5 1.6T: if you have a turbocharged Forte5, let the engine idle for 30–60 seconds before driving hard in cold weather, and let it idle for a minute after hard driving before shutting off. This gives the turbo oil a chance to lubricate the bearings at startup and cool down before oil circulation stops. It's a small habit that extends turbo life significantly.
Utah emissions and the check engine light: if your Forte has a stored code — even one that seems intermittent — it will fail a Salt Lake County emissions test. Don't clear the code and hope for the best; the OBD monitors need drive cycles to reset, and an unprepared car will fail on readiness. Fix the actual fault, drive it through a few complete cycles, then test.

5-Star Reviews
What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from Google — 5 stars across the board
“Scott has always preferred good work on my vehicles. I had his shop replace the driveline on my 2014 VW Touareg — not an easy job. The cost was cheaper than another shop. They did a great job. I had them rebuild the alternator because it was too cold for me to do it. The cost was better than I thought. I am very pleased with their work. Scott has always given me good solid advice.”
“Scott is the best! Finishes the job quickly, prices are competitive, and he has great customer service. I've had nothing but good experiences here. Thanks for the rebuilt engine and install. I will be back for future needs!”
“I highly recommend this auto and repair shop! I have been to them twice now and both times they have been fair and honest with me. They are friendly, trustworthy, competent and seem eager to help and problem solve car issues!”
